I’m a mother of one from the UK, married to an American and living in London.
We moved to Dubai in 2006 and stayed for ‘one more year’ from about 2007 onwards until 2015. I gave up a relatively successful but slightly boring management career in the UK and since then have morphed into a mother, writer and comedy improviser. This blog is a little window into that journey. At the time of writing, it was a fairly popular read amongst the expat community; looking back, it was not just my lifeline, but also the beginning of my writing career.
In 2020 I won the Comedy Women in Print prize and my debut novel Tinker, Tailor, Schoolmum, Spy will be published by HarperCollins in August 2021. Look me up at www.fayebrann.com or find me on Twitter & Insta @writerfaye or Facebook at Faye Brann Writer.
I have a flair for the dramatic and a love of all people who are honest, funny or clever. Read on.
Why is it about ruby slippers, again?
Hi there, it’s a reference to Dorothy in ‘The Wizard of Oz’ who was trying to find her way home. Glad you enjoyed the page ;-)
Ah okay! I’ve never familiarized myself with wizard of oz ergo the ignorance =)
LOL it was requisite viewing in my house growing up ;-)
LOL =P
Wow, you sound like a creative being, very impressive to juggle so many things… I enjoyed reading about your journey as an expat, although Italy is a world away from Dubai, I think there are similar feelings involved when you’re home but at the same time away from home anywhere.
