I’m a repat-was-expat mother of one from the UK, married to an American and living in London. I lived in Dubai for nine years and have recently repatriated, to cautious celebration, swathes of confusion and occasional bouts of outright misery.
We moved to Dubai in 2006 about six weeks after getting married, and stayed for ‘one more year’ from about 2007 onwards. I gave up a relatively successful but slightly boring management career in the UK and somehow have managed to completely transform myself over my decade as an expat into a full time mum, blogger, writer and comedy improviser.
If you would like to see more of what I’m up to when I’m not doing this, look me up at www.fayebrann.com, or find me on twitter @rubyslippersdxb or Facebook at Faye Brann Writer.
I have a flair for the dramatic and a love of all people who are honest, funny or clever. I like to think I’m all three. Read on.
Why is it about ruby slippers, again?
Hi there, it’s a reference to Dorothy in ‘The Wizard of Oz’ who was trying to find her way home. Glad you enjoyed the page ;-)
Ah okay! I’ve never familiarized myself with wizard of oz ergo the ignorance =)
LOL it was requisite viewing in my house growing up ;-)
LOL =P
Wow, you sound like a creative being, very impressive to juggle so many things… I enjoyed reading about your journey as an expat, although Italy is a world away from Dubai, I think there are similar feelings involved when you’re home but at the same time away from home anywhere.
